The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) has announced that internationally acclaimed Mexican actress and Academy Award nominee Yalitza Aparicio will receive the Georgia Latino Film Alliance Icon Award during the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF XV), scheduled for September 30 through October 4, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
The GALFA Icon Award recognizes individuals whose careers, influence, and international presence have significantly contributed to the visibility and advancement of Latino culture in film and entertainment. Aparicio has become a prominent voice for cultural representation and Latino pride, with an impact that extends beyond the screen. Her work in international cinema has helped bring greater visibility to Mexican and Latino talent, inspiring audiences across borders.
Aparicio’s acclaimed performance in Alfonso Cuarón’s Roma earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, marking a significant moment for Mexican and Latino representation in international film.
