VOCIC has unveiled the U32 Ultra Lightweight Manual Wheelchair, a foldable, self-propelled wheelchair engineered to ease everyday mobility for seniors, caregivers, and families. Weighing just 23 lb for the frame and 35 lb total with wheels and leg rests, the U32 is designed to offer dependable seated mobility without the bulk and strain often associated with traditional manual wheelchairs.
For many families, a wheelchair is not just for medical appointments or occasional outings; it becomes integral to daily life—moving between rooms, transferring from bed to chair, loading into a car trunk, and navigating narrow hallways. The U32 addresses these needs with a lightweight foldable frame, quick-release rear wheels, adjustable caregiver handles, flip-up armrests, swing-in/out footrests, and a safety-focused braking system.
“Everyday mobility should feel less complicated for both the user and the caregiver,” said Michael, CEO of VOCIC. “The U32 was designed around the real moments families manage every day, from getting through a doorway to transferring beside a bed, loading the chair into a vehicle, or heading out for an appointment.”
Traditional manual wheelchairs can pose challenges in real home environments. Heavy frames make lifting and transport difficult, bulky folding sizes consume storage space, and fixed armrests and footrests hinder transfers. The U32 aims to mitigate these issues with a design that balances portability, comfort, adjustability, and safety.
The centerpiece is the lightweight aluminum frame, which folds to a compact 12.6” x 26.8” size, facilitating storage and transport. Quick-release rear wheels add portability, allowing the chair to fit into tighter spaces. This design is particularly practical for caregivers who regularly load and unload the wheelchair.
Transfers are a critical aspect of wheelchair use. The U32 includes flip-up armrests and swing-in/out footrests to create a clearer transfer path, reducing obstruction between the user and destination surfaces. Height-adjustable armrests and footplates allow better customization, while a 17.7” wide by 17” deep seat with a breathable cushion supports comfort.
Caregiver handling is also prioritized. The rear push handles offer four height adjustments, from about 37” to 40.5”, accommodating caregivers of different statures. A rear stepper tube helps tilt the wheelchair over small curbs, and dual braking systems—user hand brakes and caregiver handle brakes—provide control in various scenarios.
Safety features include rear reflectors for visibility, a safety belt, an anti-tip device, and a reinforced Double-X Base frame for stability. These elements are designed to support safer everyday use when properly adjusted and operated.
The U32’s narrow frame, with an overall width below 25.6 inches, facilitates movement through standard doorways and tight corridors. It suits a range of daily scenarios: moving between rooms, doctor visits, family outings, car transfers, and assisted or self-propelled movement on appropriate surfaces.
For seniors and families seeking a manual wheelchair that is easier to fold, carry, and adjust, the U32 offers a practical balance of lightweight design and everyday support. By addressing common pain points, VOCIC aims to make mobility support less complicated for both users and caregivers, fitting seamlessly into real homes and routines.
