The Smart Lighting Expo and the Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition) opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, running from April 20 to 23. Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the twin fairs bring together some 900 exhibitors under the theme "Go Smart, Live Green." The events introduce new zones, including the debut of "Light Lab," which focuses on lighting solutions that combine innovation and sustainability, unveiling the latest lighting trends for 2026.
Jenny Koo, Deputy Executive Director of the HKTDC, said: "This year's twin lighting fairs bring together some 900 exhibitors, including new exhibitors from the Netherlands and Vietnam. A number of industry leaders are participating, including Absen, whose LED displays were in use at the World Cup and World Expos, and has been ranked first nationally in LED display exports for 16 consecutive years, and Shanghai Sansi, which supplies over 60% of the screens in Times Square, New York." The Smart Lighting Expo is one of the key events of Business of Innovation and Technology Week (BIT Week), focusing on cutting-edge lighting technologies and applications. The newly launched Smart Commercial Display & Stage Audio-Visual Zone features lighting products for cultural tourism and performing arts.
According to Statista, the global smart lighting market is expected to reach US$44 billion by 2030. An analysis from the International Energy Agency in March indicated that a second wave of LED transformation is imminent, with opportunities in regions where LED penetration remains low. The newly introduced "Light Lab" in Hall 3 features three scenario-based designs: the Lumin Garden displays garden lighting and smart lamp posts; the Lumin Arena showcases professional-grade sports lighting; and the Lumin Gallery focuses on high-end museum lighting. Group pavilions from Zhongshan, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xiamen, Changzhou, and Zhejiang further expand industry exchange.
Four major lighting trends are on display: smart lighting, green lighting, entertainment lighting, and human-centric lighting. Exhibitors such as BWEETECH showcase smart control knobs, while KC Lighting presents track systems supporting Casambi and DALI control. Absen highlights its A25 Series low-carbon LED display, and Zhongyuan Innovation presents dynamic backlights for gaming. Shenzhen Norming Lighting offers dim-to-warm track lights for visual comfort.
The fairs also host two major forums. The Asian Lighting Forum will be held on April 20-21, focusing on immersive entertainment lighting and landscape lighting design. The Smart Lighting Solution Forum on April 21 will discuss smart home lighting and human-centric entertainment lighting.
