Telomir-Zn Shows Growth Inhibition in Human and Canine Osteosarcoma Models

Telomir Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: TELO) announced new research findings from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine demonstrating that Telomir-Zn produced growth inhibition across human and canine osteosarcoma cell-line models at similar low drug concentrations. The study, conducted under the direction of Shay Bracha, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology), evaluated Telomir-Zn in one human and two canine osteosarcoma models. These results support further translational investigation and a potential development pathway using naturally occurring canine osteosarcoma, a strategy that could accelerate drug development by leveraging the similarities between canine and human cancers.

Osteosarcoma is a rare but aggressive bone cancer that affects both humans and dogs. In humans, it is most commonly diagnosed in children and young adults, while in dogs, it frequently occurs in larger breeds. The similar biology of the disease in both species makes canine osteosarcoma a valuable model for studying potential therapies. Telomir-Zn's ability to inhibit growth in both human and canine cell lines at comparable concentrations suggests a conserved mechanism of action and supports the compound's potential as a treatment for osteosarcoma.

Telomir is in discussions with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and assessing next steps for a potential in vivo efficacy study in canine osteosarcoma. Such a study could support both veterinary development and translational advancement toward human osteosarcoma. If successful, this approach could provide a faster and more cost-effective route to clinical trials in humans, as canine trials can generate valuable efficacy and safety data that may inform human study design.

The company said its immediate focus remains its triple-negative breast cancer program, which is advancing toward site initiation and Phase 1/2 patient enrollment under an active FDA-cleared IND for advanced or metastatic TNBC. Telomir-Zn is designed to modulate intracellular metal homeostasis and epigenetic regulation. The FDA's clearance of the IND for the TNBC trial underscores the potential of Telomir-Zn as a novel therapeutic approach. The osteosarcoma findings add to the growing body of evidence supporting Telomir-Zn's broad anticancer potential.

For investors, the osteosarcoma data represent an additional opportunity for Telomir-Zn beyond its lead indication. The company's strategy of exploring multiple cancer types could enhance its pipeline and increase the chances of success. However, Telomir remains a clinical-stage biotechnology company with no approved products, and the path to commercialization is long and uncertain. The next steps, including the potential in vivo study, will be important to watch.
