Six University Orthopaedic Associates Surgeons Named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors

Six surgeons from University Orthopaedic Associates (UOA) have been named 2026 Castle Connolly Top Doctors, an honor awarded to only seven percent of licensed physicians nationwide. The recognized physicians are Hesham Abdelfattah, MD; Christopher Doumas, MD; David A. Harwood, MD; Timothy P. Leddy, MD; James T. Monica, MD; and Kenneth G. Swan, Jr., MD. These board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeons are part of UOA, a leading practice in New Jersey known for comprehensive musculoskeletal subspecialty care, pioneering research, and community health initiatives.

UOA, as part of OrthoNJ—the state's largest orthopaedic group—evaluates and treats a wide range of conditions, including traumatic injuries, degenerative joint diseases, sports injuries, spinal disorders, fractures, hand and upper extremity conditions, and complex deformities. The surgeons perform advanced interventions such as joint replacements for the ankle, hip, knee, and shoulder; robotic-assisted knee replacement; spine surgeries and motion-preserving disc replacements; hand and upper extremity reconstructions; minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures; and complex fracture fixation.

The practice enhances patient care through an integrated network of on-site facilities, including advanced diagnostics, high-resolution imaging, dedicated physical therapy, hand and occupational rehabilitation, and sports performance training. For outpatient procedures, UOA partners with the University Center for Ambulatory Surgery (UCAS) in Somerset, recognized on the U.S. News & World Report "Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers" list and featuring advanced, opioid-sparing pain management protocols. More information about UCAS is available at https://www.ucassurgery.com.

Beyond clinical care, the physicians hold academic appointments at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and serve as orthopaedic consultants for Princeton University, Rutgers University, Rider University, the Somerset Patriots, and multiple local high schools. Castle Connolly Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by a physician-led research team based on criteria including medical education, training, hospital appointments, and disciplinary history. Doctors cannot pay to be selected. Details about the selection process can be found at https://www.castleconnolly.com.

This recognition underscores UOA's commitment to clinical excellence, medical education, and community wellness, reflecting the high standards of orthopaedic care provided by its surgeons.
