Opawica Explorations Inc. (TSXV: OPW) (FSE: A2PEAD) (OTCQB: OPWEF) has announced a comprehensive exploration update on its 100%-owned Arrowhead Gold Property, located in the prolific Abitibi Greenstone Belt of Quebec. The company has outlined a strategy for approximately 10,000 metres of high-priority drilling, with drill permits already secured for 25 drill-pad locations. This program is designed to systematically test high-priority targets generated from one of the most comprehensive modern geological datasets ever assembled over the property.
The Arrowhead property is strategically situated immediately adjacent to properties held by Agnico Eagle Mines Limited, including the producing LaRonde Complex, which has produced over eight million ounces of gold since 1988. This proximity underscores the potential of Arrowhead, which combines historical high-grade gold occurrences, extensive historical workings, modern drill-confirmed mineralization, and advanced 3D geological modelling. The company believes this makes Arrowhead a compelling exploration opportunity.
Arrowhead is not an early-stage conceptual project. Exploration dates back approximately a century, beginning with prospecting in the 1920s. Historical work has included trenching, pitting, underground workings, diamond drilling, and sampling of multiple mineralized structures. Historical gold values of up to 45.05 g/t Au were reported during early exploration, and chip sampling returned grades as high as 90.75 g/t Au over 1.0 metre. These results have not been independently verified by Opawica's Qualified Person but highlight the property's historical significance.
What differentiates Arrowhead today is the wealth of modern geological information layered over the historical system. In 2022, Opawica completed its inaugural modern diamond-drill program, consisting of 4,306 metres across 14 holes, with 1,590 rock samples submitted for assay. The program tested 13 targets and successfully confirmed gold mineralization across the property. Notably, 11 drill holes intersected gold zones grading greater than 1.0 g/t Au along an approximately one-kilometre stratigraphic strike length. Selected results included 18.7 g/t Au over 0.35 metres, along with 0.72% Cu in hole AR-22-01, and 1.52 g/t Au over 14.8 metres in AR-22-04. Broader anomalous gold zones extended up to approximately 29.5 metres.
The 2022 drilling identified gold mineralization in two principal geological settings: shear zones containing quartz-carbonate-tourmaline veins within mafic volcanic rocks, and mineralized felsic tuffs containing quartz-tourmaline veining. Importantly, nine target zones from that program remained untested, and the upcoming drilling aims to test these and other high-priority targets, including potential extensions and depth continuity of known mineralization.
Yvan Bussieres, P.Eng., an independent Qualified Person under National Instrument 43-101, has reviewed and approved the scientific and technical information in this release. The company's forward-looking statements are based on assumptions considered reasonable by management but are subject to risks including exploration risk, geological interpretations proving incorrect, and permitting requirements. Readers are cautioned not to place undue reliance on forward-looking information.
Opawica Explorations is a junior Canadian exploration company with a portfolio of precious and base metal properties in the Rouyn-Noranda region of the Abitibi Gold Belt. The company's objective is to increase shareholder value through cost-effective exploration and strategic partnerships. With the upcoming drill program, Opawica aims to unlock the full potential of the Arrowhead property, which could have significant implications for the company and the region's gold exploration landscape.
