NeuroOne Medical Technologies Corporation (Nasdaq: NMTC) announced today that physicians at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, have reported positive outcomes from a large cohort of epilepsy patients treated with the OneRF® Ablation System. The findings, based on real-world experience with 25 patients suffering from drug-resistant focal epilepsy, highlight the potential for a paradigm shift in how epilepsy is diagnosed and treated.
The team, led by neurologist Dr. Brin Freund and the late neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjeet Grewal, performed radiofrequency (RF) ablations using the OneRF® system after diagnostic stereo-EEG (SEEG) monitoring with NeuroOne electrodes. All patients were deemed appropriate candidates for RF ablation based on their anatomy and seizure localization. The physicians evaluated safety, seizure outcomes, and patient-reported quality of life.
According to the report, the procedure was well tolerated, with rare short-term effects and no serious long-term complications. The majority of patients experienced meaningful reductions in seizure frequency, and some achieved sustained seizure freedom either directly after RF ablation or after subsequent surgical or medical therapy guided by data from the ablation. Most patients also reported improved quality of life and satisfaction with the procedure. Ablation targets ranged from small, discrete seizure areas to multifocal or more extensively distributed epileptic networks.
