Monkee's of Fair Oaks Ranch, a new boutique in the Texas Hill Country, is set to open on August 20, bringing national contemporary designers to the Fair Oaks Ranch and Boerne communities. The store, owned by Kelli Hull, aims to fill a gap for contemporary designer clothing without requiring a 45-minute drive into San Antonio. Hull credits the franchise model for making this possible, noting that the collective buying power of the Monkee's franchise allows even a new, single-location owner to purchase alongside major retailers.
Hull recently returned from a buying trip in New York City, where she secured brands like Farm Rio for the store's opening and forward assortments. The Monkee's franchise, based in North Carolina, includes 70 stores nationwide, with this location being the eighth in Texas. This network provides access to designer showrooms that would otherwise be out of reach for a 1,200-square-foot shop.
The store's assortment is designed to offer something for everyone, featuring household names and emerging designers. Paige denim, described as a "cult classic," and FRAME anchor the contemporary denim and ready-to-wear offerings. Aviator Nation, known for its brightly colored sweat-and-swimwear, appeals to high-school-age shoppers. Dresses and elevated pieces from Milly, Shoshanna, and Marie Oliver cater to customers transitioning from day to night. Accessories and apparel from Krewe, Oncept, perfectwhitetee, and Pistola are also available, alongside jewelry by Texas artisan Christina Greene.
Hull emphasizes the importance of discovery, noting that shoppers may come in for familiar brands like Paige but are likely to discover new favorites. The curation process is hands-on, with sales reps bringing racks of clothing directly to Hull's home for preview. Data-driven decisions also play a role, with buyers helping to balance emotional choices with market trends.
