The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards (MHIMA) have announced the launch of their 2026–2027 competition season, inviting youth and emerging composers, songwriters, arrangers, and orchestrators from around the world to participate in a program dedicated to discovering and celebrating new musical talent. Inspired by the legacy of legendary composer Marvin Hamlisch, the Awards provide a platform for young artists to create original work, receive professional recognition, and engage with industry leaders.
The 2026–2027 competition introduces updated categories, including a newly expanded Arranging & Orchestration category that invites participants to create original arrangements inspired by material connected to Hamlisch's musical legacy. Other categories include Film/Media Scoring, Classical Composition, and Musical Theatre Composition. The competition is divided into Youth Division (under 18) and Emerging Division (18 or older who do not earn majority income through composing). All submitted works must be original, and the use of generative AI or stock music is strictly prohibited.
Winners will be announced at the late fall 2027 MHIMA Presentation at the historic Avon Theatre Film Center in Stamford, Connecticut. All nominees will be invited to an exclusive Professional Development and Networking Day in New York City, featuring mentorship and career guidance from music industry executives. The judging process involves anonymous evaluation by professional judges, followed by review by a Distinguished Jury of internationally recognized artists.
Prize packages may include publication consideration by Concord, one of the world's leading music publishing organizations. The Awards are sponsored by Concord and Caroline's Cakes. Registration details, deadlines, and submission guidelines are available on the official website: www.hamlischawards.org.
The Marvin Hamlisch International Music Awards honor Hamlisch's legacy by encouraging excellence and innovation in music. Hamlisch, a recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, Academy Awards, Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, Tony Awards, and Golden Globe Awards, created beloved music across film, theatre, and television. The competition aims to cultivate the next generation of composers and musical storytellers.
