LION Smart Production GmbH, part of LION E-Mobility Group, is accelerating its stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS) business by adding two internationally experienced experts to its team. Winfried Wahl will serve as Head of BESS Strategy, focusing on strategic development and market positioning, while Sebastian Bujnoch will manage business and sales development, especially supplier relationships and customer growth across Europe.
This personnel expansion highlights the strategic importance of the BESS segment as a key growth pillar for LION Smart. Stationary energy storage systems are crucial for integrating renewable energy, stabilizing power grids, and enabling future-proof energy supply concepts. The company aims to develop high-performance, scalable storage solutions to support the energy transition.
Winfried Wahl brings over 18 years of experience in photovoltaic systems and stationary energy storage markets. A graduate electrical engineer from RWTH Aachen University, he has expertise across the entire value chain, from technology positioning to market entry strategies and regulatory compliance. He previously shaped the European market entry of companies like Hithium and LONGi, and contributed to BNEF Tier 1 listings and reinsurance eligibility through Munich Re. Wahl also co-authored the IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report 2024 and serves on PV Magazine's jury.
Since June 2026, Wahl has been responsible for strategic BESS development at LION Smart in Garching, focusing on refining the company's positioning, developing competitive products and business models, and expanding partnerships. Sebastian Bujnoch complements the team with international leadership experience in manufacturing, operations, and the battery sector. His 16-year career includes deep insights into Chinese and Asian manufacturing markets, supply chain structures, and cross-border collaboration, which is vital for technology-driven markets like energy storage.
At LION Smart, Bujnoch will build and scale the BESS business unit, strengthening relationships with Chinese suppliers and broadening the European customer portfolio. Dr. Joachim Damasky, CEO of LION E-Mobility AG, stated, 'With Winfried Wahl and Sebastian Bujnoch, we are gaining two individuals who combine strategic market insight, international experience, and operational execution capabilities. Their expertise will play an important role in systematically building our BESS business and positioning LION Smart as a strong partner in the European energy storage market.'
