Kontron, a global leader in IoT/embedded computer technology, has secured a contract to supply its 5G Automotive Network Access Devices (NADs) to a leading European car manufacturer. The modules, developed in Berlin and manufactured at a new facility in Düsseldorf, will be integrated into the OEM's vehicle platform. The initial order, valued at a double-digit million figure, covers approximately 150,000 units, with potential to more than triple if the technology is adopted across additional vehicle platforms.
This agreement represents a significant step toward European technological sovereignty, as Kontron is currently the only provider worldwide to develop 5G communication modules in Europe and manufacture them in Germany. The modules are critical for digital transformation, enabling functions such as over-the-air updates, remote diagnostics, and future V2X applications in software-defined vehicles. With increasing emphasis on cybersecurity and supply chain resilience, European OEMs are seeking alternatives to non-European suppliers. Kontron's German production facility, which officially began operations on July 13, 2026, offers short supply chains and high quality standards.
