The Keep A Breast Foundation has announced the 2026 High Desert Collection, an art exhibition set to open September 18–20, 2026, at the Likker Barn in Pioneertown, California. This second edition of the collection pairs original chest casts of over 30 local community members with artists who transform them into unique works of art, aiming to honor the region while sparking crucial conversations about breast health and prevention.
Founded by Shaney jo Darden and curated by High Desert artist Clair Case, the exhibition will feature an RSVP-required opening reception on Friday, with public viewing hours on Saturday and Sunday. The event is designed to blend artistic expression with a public health mission, leveraging the visual impact of chest casts to draw attention to breast cancer prevention.
The exhibition's timing is strategic, aligning with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. During that month, the chest casts will be displayed inside participating businesses along Highway 62 as a month-long public art experience, coinciding with the Hwy 62 Open Studio Art Tours. This integration into local businesses aims to reach a broader audience, embedding health messages into everyday community spaces.
A key component of the 2026 High Desert Collection is the launch of Bucks for Boobies, a community-wide fundraising and awareness campaign. This initiative supports breast cancer prevention and the Keep A Breast Foundation, encouraging local businesses and residents to participate in raising funds and awareness. The campaign underscores the foundation's commitment to proactive health education.
The Keep A Breast Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, has been at the forefront of breast cancer education since 2000. Its mission is to reduce breast cancer risk and impact globally through art, education, prevention, and action. The foundation pioneered a youth-centric approach, targeting Gen Alpha, Gen Z, and millennials with prevention-focused information during their formative years. Programs like the "i love boobies!" bracelet campaign and the Keep A Breast app provide accessible, shame-free education on breast self-examination, risk reduction, and environmental health.
The 2026 High Desert Collection represents a unique intersection of art and public health, aiming to normalize discussions about breast health and inspire proactive prevention. By involving local artists and community members, the exhibition fosters a sense of collective ownership and responsibility. The public art display along Highway 62 extends the reach of the campaign, ensuring that the message of prevention is woven into the daily fabric of the community.
As the foundation continues to fill the critical gap in breast cancer education—reaching young people before they become patients—the High Desert Collection exemplifies its innovative approach. Through art, the foundation engages audiences in a way that is both memorable and impactful, encouraging individuals to take charge of their health. The Bucks for Boobies campaign further amplifies this mission, turning awareness into tangible support for prevention efforts.
The Keep A Breast Foundation's 2026 High Desert Collection is more than an art show; it is a call to action for communities to embrace breast health as a shared priority. By combining artistic expression with educational outreach, the foundation is paving the way for a future where breast cancer is not just treated but prevented.
