Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a seven-day delegation to Canada starting September 20, 2026, to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global business. The mission, supervised by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, will be led by Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, and will include Chinese Mainland companies in sustainability and life and health sciences. The delegation will visit Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton.
The visit aims to help Chinese Mainland enterprises understand the local ecosystems and precisely align their go-global needs, while attracting Canadian businesses in these strategic sectors to invest in Hong Kong, thereby driving new growth impetus. This initiative underscores Hong Kong's pivotal role as a two-way investment bridge between Mainland China and global markets, particularly in high-growth sectors such as green technology and life sciences.
Ms Lee said, "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem. As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows."
During the visit, the delegation will meet with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will also hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and take part in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions.
This outbound mission is a key component of the GoGlobal Task Force's efforts to support Mainland enterprises in diversifying their global footprint. By facilitating direct engagement with Canadian stakeholders, the delegation seeks to identify concrete opportunities for collaboration, technology exchange, and market entry. For Mainland companies, Canada offers a stable business environment, advanced research capabilities, and a gateway to North American markets. For Canadian firms, partnering with Mainland enterprises via Hong Kong provides access to Asia's dynamic economies and capital pools.
The visit also reinforces Hong Kong's position as an international financial, trade, and innovation hub. InvestHK's involvement highlights the city's unique advantages under the "one country, two systems" framework, including free flow of capital, a robust legal system, and world-class professional services. These attributes make Hong Kong an ideal base for Mainland companies going global and for foreign firms entering Asia.
As global supply chains evolve and sustainability goals intensify, cross-border collaboration in green tech and life sciences becomes increasingly critical. The delegation's focus on these sectors aligns with broader trends toward decarbonization and health innovation, areas where both Canada and Mainland China have significant strengths. By connecting these ecosystems, the mission could catalyze joint ventures, research partnerships, and investment flows that drive economic growth and technological advancement.
The GoGlobal Task Force's work is part of a larger strategy to integrate Mainland enterprises into global value chains, with Hong Kong playing a central coordinating role. The Canada visit is expected to yield tangible outcomes, including memoranda of understanding, pilot projects, and follow-up exchanges. Such initiatives not only benefit participating companies but also strengthen Hong Kong's economy by attracting new business activities and talent.
