Handel's Ice Cream, recognized as the world's best ice cream by National Geographic, will open its newest location in San Diego's Carmel Mountain Ranch on June 9, 2026. The shop, located at 11134 Rancho Carmel Drive in Carmel Mountain Plaza, marks the 12th location for a partnership group that includes Keith and Shirlyn Kesler, Travis and Tarah Campbell, and Tammi Weenig. The grand opening will feature giveaways throughout the day, with the first 30 guests in line at 11:00 a.m. receiving an exclusive Handel's spoon.
The partners bring extensive experience and a passion for the brand. Keith Kesler, who transitioned from a 30-year corporate career, emphasized the venture's focus on happiness and community. "After three decades in corporate America, I wanted to lead a venture that was purely about happiness," said Kesler. "We have truly enjoyed being a part of this community over the years and look forward to seeing all the great families we have come to know." The team has already been active in the area through fundraising and catering events.
The 1,600-square-foot walk-up shop features eight service windows for efficient service and will offer 48 rotating flavors made fresh daily. Customers can also order via DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Postmates, and catering services are available.
