In a demonstration of its long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility, FWD Group Holdings Limited (“FWD Group” or “FWD”) today announced a series of charitable grants to support over 13,000 people in communities across Asia. The announcement coincides with the company’s 13th anniversary and reflects its mission to move the life insurance industry in a new direction by also giving back to the communities it serves.
Since its establishment in 2013, FWD Group has grown from its initial operations in Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, and Thailand into a pan-Asian life and health insurer serving millions of customers across 10 markets. The company reached a significant milestone in July last year when it was listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange under the stock code 1828. This listing has allowed FWD to further expand its reach and deepen its impact.
Huynh Thanh Phong, Group Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of FWD Group, emphasized the importance of community engagement: “At FWD Group, changing the way people feel about insurance is about much more than looking after our customers – it’s also about supporting the communities where we operate. These 13 grants are a meaningful way to give back to the people and places that have been part of our journey. Together with trusted community partners, we hope to make a real difference in people’s lives, while also bringing our caring value to life through employee volunteering.”
The 13 grants will fund a diverse range of initiatives across the region, focusing on areas such as financial literacy, career readiness, entrepreneurship, health and wellbeing, and community recovery. In Hong Kong SAR, the grants will extend the JA SparktheDream Wellness Programme with Junior Achievement Hong Kong, reaching 2,600 primary school students with interactive workshops and family activities to build social, emotional, and financial skills. Another grant will support a football-based programme with Save the Children Hong Kong to strengthen the wellbeing and resilience of 200 children and 80 caregivers affected by the Tai Po fire. Additionally, Plan International Hong Kong will lead psychosocial support and community-building initiatives for over 6,500 students, parents, and teachers in Tai Po to aid long-term recovery.
In Cambodia, JCI Mekong will equip 200 young people with practical money management skills through financial education workshops and digital learning content. In Indonesia, the InnovateHer Academy 4.0, in partnership with KUMPUL, will empower 10 female entrepreneurs with mentorship and business readiness skills. Japan will see football clinics for over 15 visually impaired individuals with Hands On Tokyo to promote inclusion and social connection. In Malaysia, GivingHub will provide 170 low-income families with health education and financial literacy workshops, along with 100 cancer screening and consultation sessions. The Philippines will support 100 university students in their transition to the workforce with financial literacy and career readiness programmes with Junior Achievement Philippines. In Singapore, Club Rainbow will organize a carnival for 50 children with chronic illnesses and their caregivers to foster inclusion and community spirit. Thailand will benefit from hospitality training scholarships for seven disadvantaged youth via the Pimali Foundation, and the JA SparktheDream programme will train 30 additional educators in financial literacy. Vietnam will see workshops and debate competitions led by Startup Vietnam Foundation and Dear Our Community to empower 800 students in financial decision-making, and Little Roses Foundation will provide 76 computers to schools in Khanh Hoa Province, enabling 1,800 students to continue learning after severe flooding.
These initiatives underscore FWD Group’s dedication to creating positive social impact and supporting sustainable development in the regions where it operates. By partnering with established community organizations, FWD aims to address local needs and contribute to the well-being of individuals and families, embodying its vision of changing the way people feel about insurance through meaningful action.
