Frontieras North America Appoints Refining Veteran Robert Portz as Vice President of Operations and Engineering

Frontieras North America has appointed Robert Portz as vice president of operations and engineering, a move that signals the company's progress in commercializing its patented FASForm(TM) Solid Carbon Fractionation process. Portz brings more than 30 years of refining operations experience, with leadership roles at facilities operated by Ashland Oil, Hunt Refining Company, Sinclair Oil and PBF Energy. He previously helped build Wyoming Renewable Diesel Company under Sinclair and later served as technical manager at PBF Energy’s Toledo Refinery.

According to the company, Portz will oversee facility operations development for its planned Mason County, West Virginia, flagship plant, including engineering coordination, construction oversight, workforce development and commissioning activities. The appointment underscores Frontieras's commitment to advancing its zero-waste technology designed to convert coal and other solid hydrocarbons into clean-burning fuels, hydrogen, industrial carbon, sulfuric acid and fertilizer through a closed-loop process.

The FASForm(TM) process, which Frontieras has patented, aims to transform coal and other hydrocarbons into valuable products without generating waste. This approach could address environmental concerns associated with traditional coal usage while creating economic opportunities in regions like West Virginia. The company's focus on profitable, market-driven innovation is central to its strategy of delivering abundant, affordable, and available energy.

Portz's extensive background in refining operations and engineering is expected to be instrumental in bringing the Mason County plant from planning to production. His experience building the Wyoming Renewable Diesel Company under Sinclair demonstrates his ability to lead complex projects from concept to completion. The company's announcement highlights the importance of experienced leadership in navigating the technical and regulatory challenges of deploying novel technologies.
