U.S. Term Limits today announced that former Texas State Representative Jarvis Johnson has agreed to serve as Texas State Co-Chair for the organization. Johnson, who served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2016 through January 2025, brings more than three decades of public service and community leadership to the effort to enact congressional term limits. His appointment comes as the organization continues to build momentum for what it describes as one of the most popular and urgently needed government reforms nationwide.
Johnson expressed enthusiasm for the role, stating that Americans are frustrated with a Congress that has become disconnected from the people it serves. He emphasized that congressional term limits would help restore accountability, encourage citizen leadership, and bring fresh ideas to Washington, D.C. Johnson noted that the Founding Fathers never intended public office to become a lifetime career and argued that term limits would ensure elected officials focus on serving the people rather than preserving political power.
Johnson has dedicated more than 30 years to building stronger communities in Texas. A lifelong Houstonian, entrepreneur, and public servant, he has focused on empowering individuals and expanding opportunities for underserved communities. During his tenure in the Texas House, he championed legislation on public education, mental health, criminal justice reform, youth development, senior services, public safety, and economic opportunity. He also helped secure more than $2.1 billion in investments for flood control, infrastructure, historically Black colleges and universities, and neighborhood revitalization.
Before serving in the Legislature, Johnson made history as one of the youngest individuals elected to the Houston City Council, representing District B. He has been recognized for innovative leadership, community development initiatives, youth mentorship programs, and a commitment to creating economic opportunities. As a successful business owner, his dedication to hiring locally reflects his belief in strengthening communities from within.
