Family Friend Roofing and Construction in Round Rock, TX donated a new roof to a local veteran this holiday season, marking the beginning of an annual tradition of service. The company, which serves Central Texas and Dallas, partnered with USA Cares and the ShareTheWill Foundation to identify and support a veteran in need.
On November 18, veteran Rico received news that he would receive a fully donated roof from Family Friend Roofing. The company stepped in after learning that Rico had recently received a power wheelchair through community partner ShareTheWill Foundation. Co-owner Lindsay Shapee noted that giving back has been a core value since the company's founding. During a team call, co-owner Josh Bovino suggested donating a roof to a veteran for Christmas, sparking weeks of coordination and vetting.
The Family Friend team reached out to Matt Maples of USA Cares, a nonprofit assisting post-9/11 veterans and their families. The introduction led to Rico, who had already received assistance through community advocates including Will Williams and the ShareTheWill Foundation. Together, these organizations coordinated a surprise reveal at Café Java, where Rico learned about the roof donation alongside community members and Santa Claus.
For Family Friend Roofing, the initiative was about connection. The company specializes in residential roof repair, replacement, storm restoration, and insurance claim guidance. Lindsay Shapee is active with the Five Point Board of Realtors, and the company is engaged with the Round Rock Chamber, strengthening ties with local business leaders and families across Williamson County. "Real change happens when people connect beyond the surface," Shapee said.
The company plans to accept nominations for future veteran roof donations as it continues to grow, with the goal of expanding the initiative annually.
