RICHMOND, VA — U.S. Term Limits announced today that Dr. Ibraheem Samirah has agreed to serve as the Virginia State Chair for the organization. Dr. Samirah, a former member of the Virginia House of Delegates, brings experience in both private and public service to the role. He aims to advance the push for congressional term limits, which he sees as a crucial step to address dysfunction in Washington, D.C.
“I am honored to serve as the Virginia State Chair for U.S. Term Limits,” said Dr. Samirah. “Now more than ever before, the need for term limits is crystal clear. Polls show that one issue that unites all citizens regardless of political affiliation is the need for congressional term limits. Over 80% of Americans want congressional term limits enacted at once to bring true reform to our government and end the dysfunction of entrenched ways that we see in Washington, D.C. daily.”
Dr. Samirah emphasized that serving in Congress should not be a lifelong entitlement. “Term limits will help improve accountability, diversify Congress, and make government work better for all Americans. I look forward to working with the team from U.S. Term Limits to ensure that the Virginia legislature adopts a resolution calling for congressional term limits,” he concluded.
Philip Blumel, President of U.S. Term Limits, expressed confidence in Dr. Samirah’s leadership. “We are honored to have Dr. Samirah leading our efforts in Virginia to pass term limits for Congress. Under his guidance, I am confident we will get our term limits resolution passed in Virginia,” Blumel said.
Dr. Samirah’s appointment comes as the movement for term limits gains momentum across the country. U.S. Term Limits, described as the largest grassroots term limits advocacy group, works to connect supporters with legislators and pass term limits at all levels of government, particularly on the U.S. Congress. The push for term limits in Virginia aligns with national polls indicating strong bipartisan support. According to U.S. Term Limits, over 80% of Americans favor congressional term limits, a sentiment that Dr. Samirah hopes to translate into legislative action. As state chair, he will work to build coalitions and advocate for a resolution from the Virginia General Assembly.
Dr. Samirah, a dentist and business owner, was born in Chicago to Jordanian-Palestinian parents. He earned a B.A. in government from American University and a Doctor of Dental Medicine from Boston University. He served in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2019 and remains active in state politics, respected by members of both parties.
