Centenario Gold Corp. (TSXV: CTG) announced the start of the first phase work program at its Los Reyes copper-gold project near Chihuahua, Mexico. The initial phase includes detailed mapping and sampling of historical underground mine workings along a north-south trending contact zone extending for one kilometer. These workings, dating back to the early 1900s, have never been systematically sampled.
Following this, the company will proceed with a second phase consisting of 1,500 meters of diamond drilling to test depth extensions beyond 100 meters of a high-grade copper-zinc-silver skarn zone previously mined by ASARCO. Centenario has submitted an environmental study report and expects permits by late April 2026, with drilling to commence immediately thereafter.
The Los Reyes property is a copper-zinc-gold skarn (carbonate replacement deposit) located 170 kilometers south-southeast of Chihuahua City, covering an area of historical mining along the western contact of a two-kilometer-diameter granodiorite intrusive. Mining activities date back to the early 1700s. In the late 1800s, ASARCO mined approximately 200,000 tons of high-grade Cu-Zn-Ag material from the Jibosa workings.
The most recent exploration by Valterra Resource Corporation in 2019 focused on an 800-meter strike along the intrusive-carbonaceous sediments contact, covering the Cu-Au skarn zone outcropping between Tertiary granodiorite and Cretaceous limestones and shales. The exploration target exceeds 100 meters in width and hosts multiple strongly copper-enriched zones. Valterra reported surface sampling results from waste dumps and outcrop chip samples with an average copper grade of 3.1%, with 22 of 28 samples exceeding 1% Cu. Anomalous samples also contained up to 0.57 g/t Au, 25.3 g/t Ag, 0.47% Mo, and 1.7% Zn.
Derrick Strickland, an independent Qualified Person under NI 43-101, has reviewed and approved the technical disclosure. The company cautions that mineralization on adjacent properties is not necessarily indicative of mineralization on Los Reyes.
Centenario Gold Corp. is a Vancouver-based mineral exploration company focused on gold, copper, and silver projects in the Americas.
