BioVaxys Technology Corp. (CSE: BIOV) (FRA: 5LB0) (OTCQB:BVAXF) and Adiverna LLC have announced a research agreement to develop mRNA-based vaccines for companion animals, targeting rabies, leptospirosis, feline infectious peritonitis (FIV), and other diseases. The collaboration combines BioVaxys' DPX Immune Educating Platform with Adiverna's proprietary artificial intelligence technology to design and optimize mRNA sequences for veterinary use.
Currently, no mRNA vaccines are approved for companion animals. Adiverna's AI platform uses machine learning and advanced bioinformatics to identify effective mRNA sequences that code for protective antigens. The platform offers dose-sparing potential, requiring less vaccine while still eliciting robust immune responses. According to Kirill Kalnin, PhD, Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Adiverna, the collaboration aims to revolutionize routine annual vaccinations for dogs and cats, enhancing safety and effectiveness while reducing financial burden on pet owners.
BioVaxys' DPX platform presents antigens to the immune system using a non-systemic mechanism that does not release active ingredients at the injection site. Instead, it forces active uptake of immune cells and delivery into lymphatic nodes. This "no release" mechanism allows sustained activation of the immune system, with T cell flow lasting longer than traditional vaccines. Kenneth Kovan, President and COO of BioVaxys, noted that DPX provides enhanced stability of packaged mRNA and attracts antigen-presenting cells for targeted uptake.
Traditional vaccines for companion animals are effective for one to three years. A DPX-formulated mRNA vaccine could offer longer-lasting immunity with fewer doses, rapid neutralizing antibody responses, and faster manufacturing. It would avoid viral material and reduce impurities. The global rabies veterinary vaccines market is valued at US$785 million in 2024, projected to reach US$1.1 billion by 2030. The dog vaccine market was valued at approximately $2.10 billion in 2025, and the feline vaccines sector is projected to reach $3.28 billion by 2034.
