The agreement, proposed to Mayor Brandon Scott and the City Council, aims to secure the corridor's future as a major cultural and economic asset as Baltimore moves forward with a nearly $1 billion renovation of the Inner Harbor.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' — connecting West Baltimore, the Inner Harbor, and Harbor East — is one of the few U.S. streets with a registered trademark from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, joining the ranks of Chicago's Magnificent Mile, Rodeo Drive, and the Las Vegas Strip. The trademark was published on September 15, 2020. The corridor celebrated its 10th anniversary on April 25, 2026, recognized by Mayor Scott and Governor Wes Moore.
The proposed 100-year agreement breaks down into four 25-year phases: $125 million for 2026–2051, $250 million for 2051–2076, $375 million for 2076–2101, and $500 million for 2101–2126, totaling $1.25 billion. This averages $12.5 million per year, a figure comparable to the annual salary of a top-tier baseball player. The agreement would solidify the corridor's status as one of America's most famous streets, according to Derrick E Vaughan, an analyst for Famous Streets & Sports Culture In America.
The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is listed among the top 10–15 most famous streets in America on Google search. Its introduction on April 25, 2016, coincides with the anniversary of the iconic Domino Sugars neon sign, installed 65 years earlier in 1951. As the popularity of famous streets and sports culture grows globally, trademarked corridors like the 'Charm'tastic Mile' are expected to become increasingly valuable brands, Vaughan said.
The press release notes that the agreement would be historic not only for Baltimore but for the nation, as the city prepares for its 250th anniversary celebrations. The 'Charm'tastic Mile' is the only USPTO-registered trademark street in Baltimore and the state of Maryland.
