Licensed massage therapist Terry Johnson announces the grand opening of Balanced Wellness Massage Therapy at the Salon and Spa Galleria South Cooper in Arlington, Texas. Johnson's mission is to help people feel better, both mentally and physically.
"Massage is very therapeutic," Johnson said. "People often think of massage as something simple—pressure, muscle, relief. But it's so much more than that."
With three years of experience, Johnson learned her techniques at Tarrant County College and refined them while working overseas. "I learned during my time in Thailand that it was never just about the muscles," she said. Her teacher emphasized that "the body doesn't open through force. It opens through trust."
Johnson observed that her teacher never broke contact with the patient, creating a seamless flow like one long breath moving through the body. "She explained that when you break your stroke, the body wakes up again—like someone tapping you on the shoulder just as you begin to drift into sleep," Johnson said. "But when the touch flows without interruption, the nervous system softens. The mind lets go. That's when real change begins."
This philosophy forms the foundation of Johnson's work. She begins sessions by warming the body slowly, allowing muscles to soften without resistance before gradually working deeper. "And all the while, my hands never lose connection," Johnson said. "Each stroke flows into the next, creating a rhythm that your body begins to follow. Many clients tell me they lose track of time or feel like they've drifted somewhere between sleep and waking."
Johnson believes the real work happens in the nervous system. "By the end of the session, it's not just that your body feels better. It feels reset," she said. "That's the difference between a massage and an experience your body remembers."
Balanced Wellness Massage Therapy is accepting new clients by appointment only. Salon hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but Johnson will schedule outside regular hours if needed. For questions or appointments, call or text (817) 800-7940.
