Andina Copper Corporation (TSX-V: ANDC | FSE: FIR | OTCQB: PMMCF) has announced a significant drill intercept from hole CDH005 at its Cobrasco Project in Choco, Colombia. The hole, designed to test southern extensions of the Cobrasco system to a depth of 700 meters, has confirmed a large-scale southerly extension of copper-molybdenum-silver mineralization, demonstrating the potential for a major copper deposit.
CDH005 was collared from the same platform as previous holes and oriented due south, testing approximately 600 meters of lateral extent and 700 meters of vertical extent before terminating at 934 meters. Unlike earlier holes that intersected felsic lithologies, CDH005 encountered mineralized diorite to dacite-andesite porphyries, with visually significant chalcopyrite-dominant sulphide mineralization. The hole also revealed a transition from magnetic intrusive sequences at surface to a magnetic low at depth, with intermediate dacite-andesite units intruded by narrow quartz-rich felsic rhyolite intrusions.
Andina Copper’s President and CEO Joseph van den Elsen stated, “Ongoing drilling at Cobrasco continues to demonstrate the large-scale and relatively shallow nature of Cobrasco Central, with results from hole CDH005 significantly extending the mineralized envelope to the south. With broad spaced holes having tested less than half the target area to-date, we see the potential for a globally significant copper deposit(s) at Cobrasco.” The company plans to mobilize a second drill to accelerate exploration and define the lateral extents of the system.
The mineralization in CDH005 is interpreted to be associated with the waning stages of potassic alteration transitioning into early sericitic alteration. Lower sections of the hole display epidote-chlorite alteration consistent with a propylitic assemblage, interpreted as the outer zones of the hydrothermal system. The mineralization remains open to the south.
Step-out drillholes CDH006 and CDH007 have been completed with assays pending, and CDH008 is underway targeting the northern extension. The systematic drilling program is focused on a 2500m x 1000m target area, with drilling so far covering approximately 1000m x 750m. The large copper-molybdenum soil anomaly extends approximately 2.5 km north–south and 900 m east–west, supported by rock chip geochemistry and geophysical data.
A Qualified Person, Francisco Montes, a consultant of Andina Copper and a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists, has verified the technical information. The company has also commenced a systematic environmental baseline program across the project area.
