The 36th Hong Kong Book Fair, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will be held from July 15 to 21 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year's theme, "Cultural Legacy | Joyful Journeys," aims to inspire readers to explore cultural heritage and travel through literature. The fair runs concurrently with the Hong Kong Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks, creating a one-stop summer destination for culture, sports, and leisure.
Jenny Koo, HKTDC Deputy Executive Director, stated that the theme encourages readers to discover the innovation of traditional culture in modern society and to immerse themselves in cultural and eco-tourism. The HKTDC, celebrating its 60th anniversary, will feature a collaborative art project with artist Jane Lee and over 100 students, depicting Hong Kong's transformation.
The "World of Art & Culture" zone will host the exhibition "World in Words, A Voyage of the Heart," divided into four zones connecting Hong Kong stories with world literature. It includes six interactive setups recommending books and itineraries based on visitor preferences, and showcases over 200 books from around the world.
Eight seminar series will feature renowned writers such as Liu Zhenyun, Su Tong, and Bi Feiyu, as well as international authors like Luke Kennard. Topics will cover literature, economy, and current affairs, with speakers including Joe Ngai of McKinsey & Company and aerospace experts from Hong Kong universities.
The fair will also include the ASEAN Literary Festival for the first time, fostering cultural exchange with ASEAN countries. Other highlights include the Cultural and Creative Space, a Chinese Mainland Publishers pavilion featuring Yunnan as the featured province, and a themed exhibition by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
The Sports and Leisure Expo offers sports experiences and fitness products, including the "Fit & Fearless Challenge" by the Hong Kong Playground Association and pickleball apparel from Cyber Smart Limited. The World of Snacks will feature over 1,300 snacks from nearly 30 countries, including local brands like Amore Hand Baked and innovative products like freeze-dried candy.
A single ticket grants access to all three fairs. Adult tickets are HK$30, with discounts for morning admission, re-entry, and tourists. The HKTDC is also running a "60 Book Fair Super Passes" giveaway on Facebook. For more details, visit the Hong Kong Book Fair website.
