The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia is celebrating the vital role local businesses play in the region's economic landscape, while also announcing a significant leadership change. Dr. Joseph G. Cacchione, CEO of Jefferson, has been named the incoming Chair of the Chamber's Board of Directors, according to Chamber News Articles. He will officially take on the role on October 15, 2026, succeeding Christopher H. Franklin, Chairman and CEO of Essential Utilities.
Cacchione, the first doctor and CEO of a major health system to hold this position, is expected to lead the Chamber as it continues to advocate for the business community and enhance the region's competitiveness. His appointment comes as the Chamber focuses on driving economic growth and expanding opportunities for residents, positioning Greater Philadelphia as a top global business destination. Cacchione has been an active member of the Chamber's Board since 2022, contributing significantly to its policy and economic growth agenda.
Reflecting on his new role, Cacchione expressed his commitment to collaborating with business, government, and civic leaders to unlock the region's potential. "Our region has tremendous strengths and even greater potential when business, government, and civic leaders work together," Cacchione stated. His previous roles include serving as Executive Vice President of Clinical and Network Services for Ascension and CEO of Ascension Michigan, where he managed extensive healthcare networks.
Meanwhile, the Chamber is also highlighting the contributions of businesses across Greater Philadelphia as part of its Chamber 2028 vision. In a message from Chamber President and CEO Chellie Cameron, the organization emphasized the importance of supporting businesses of all sizes to ensure regional competitiveness on a global scale. This message coincides with National Middle Market Week and Philadelphia's 41st annual MED Week, which celebrate the achievements of middle market and diverse local businesses, respectively (Chamber News Articles).
Middle market companies, such as Q-mation, Medical Guardian, and MEG Glass, are recognized for their substantial impact on the local economy, generating approximately $253 billion in annual revenue and employing nearly one-third of the workforce. The Chamber's partnership with the National Center for the Middle Market aims to provide valuable insights and opportunities for these businesses to thrive.
Similarly, MED Week acknowledges the success of small and underrepresented businesses like Connexus Technology and Cleaning Champs, which contribute to neighborhood strength and economic resilience. The Chamber's commitment to fostering growth at every business stage underscores its role in building a thriving regional economy.
As the Chamber continues to support and celebrate the businesses that power Greater Philadelphia, the region looks forward to a future of inclusive growth and increased global recognition under the leadership of Dr. Cacchione.
